GIRLS ROCK! DC invited Femme Fatale DC to host four workshops during their summer camp inside NPR Headquarters.
Girls Rock! DC works at the intersection of art and activism, providing music programs for young girls and non-binary people to learn, grow, and use the power of their communities. The non-profit bolsters leadership, self-expression, and a passion for social change through creative collaboration and community power-building.
The Femme Fatale DC workshop inspired self-expression through fashion and art. It encouraged campers to view themselves as fashion designers using visual elements to create overall compositions, paralleling the music arrangements explored during the camp's music enrichment aspects. Briget Heidmous, trained in visual literacy and youth education in the interdisciplinary museum space, designed the workshop curriculum.
The facilitators (shown above) for the first day of workshops were Adriana, Gabriella, Symone, Briget, and Savannah. Between them, they arrive prepared to share expertise in art, music, facilitation, creative direction, and activating alternative third spaces in their communities.
Femme Fatale DC is a social enterprise owned by Cee Smith with a storefront in NW Washington, DC. The mission-driven business is dedicated to empowering womxn and non-binary people to turn their passions into profitable businesses by providing low-barrier access to retail space.
With deeply aligned values, the partnership between Girls Rock! DC and Femme Fatale DC proves inspiring.
