Join us on Sunday, April 28th 2024, from 12-4PM at Femme Fatale D.C. for a Cyanotype patch making workshop! Supplies provided!
We'll teach you how to use the fabric patches that we pre-treated with Cyanotype chemistry to make your very own Cyanotype Patch!
What is a cyanotype?
Cyanotypes are a historical photo process that uses the sun to print on any surface coated with the chemistry.
Female British botanist Anna Atkins published her detailed and meticulous botanical images using the cyanotype photographic process in her 1843 book, Photographs of British Algae: Cyanotype Impressions. It was the first book ever to be printed with photos.
What will attendees do?
After rinsing and drying your Cyanotype, we will have needles and thread available for you to use to sew your patch onto a clothing piece or bag of your choice.
We recommend bringing in a clothing piece/bag that you want to adhere your patch to
We also suggest bringing any special plants or small personal objects that you would like to use on your cyanotype to create a silhouette with an image that's uniquely YOU.
The patches will be approximately 5 x 5 inches in size, so keep this in mind when you are choosing your objects! Looking forward to seeing you there!
This workshop will be led by artists Megan Bainbridge and AnaMarie King.
