Join Pass the Mic Poetry August 11th, 2022 from 6:30-9:30 PM for a free write DIY, collage box creations, and open mic honoring home.
Social power is upheld by erasing and eradicating the people and places that create outside its imagination. Those society seeks to strip of power build homes out of what it cannot begin to conceive. No one is voiceless, no one needs to be spoken for -- you only need to be handed the amplification to be heard. This event focuses on the idea of home: your childhood neighborhood, the room you've carefully decorated, people who echo safety, a treetop escape, the communities you build in resistance.
Join Pass the Mic Poetry @femmefataledc August 11th, 2022 from 6:30-9:30pm for a multimodal event honoring home. Spit on an open mic to tell us about your home(s), grab a collage box from @brigetheidmous (details below) to paint a picture of your place, and join us in a free write DIY creating shipping label stickers to plaster across D.C. describing your experience.

Inside each box is an artist-selected variety of clippings and scraps direct from Briget's studio practice, including cut-up sketches and paintings along with the usual suspects, magazine pages, and the like. When you participate in Collage Box you are in direct artistic conversation with her and her art practice. When you complete your collage, you can contribute to the Collage Box Community Archive, a soon-to-be-published page on briget-heidmous.com. At this event, Briget will be there to document your collage and prepare it for the archive!
